Incident: Northwest DC93 at Buffalo on Jan 28th 2010, engine failure

Northwest Airlines McDonnell Douglas DC-9-30, flight NW-7237 from Buffalo,NY to Detroit,MI (USA) with 101 people on board, was climbing through 2000 feet out of Buffalo’s runway 23, when the crew reported they had an engine failing on them. The crew levelled off at 5000 feet for a return to Buffalo’s runway 23, then reported their right hand engine produced some vibrations and did not develop full power. The crew subsequently decided to shut the engine down. The airplane landed safely on runway 23 about 20 minutes after departure.

The flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked on other flights.
